Whitlock explains 16-year career in KC, other freaky shit at The Star

Did anybody else catch The Explanation?

Lovable/hateable KC Star sports scribe/race commentator/"Wire" fanatic Jason Whitlock announced that he's leaving the Star after 16 years in the KC journo game. He got to tell "his story." Cried. Ate some BBQ (see: Ollie Gates).

He also dished some mad dirt. Threw some folks "under the bus." Talked about some sexcapades between Star editor in chief Mike Fannin and former sports editor Holly Lawton. Also told a story 'bout Fannin getting droned and going "Brokeback" on some waiter at a bar.

Not sure why so many folks gotta "hate on" Whitlock. Not sure why he's seen as the "bad guy." He seems like a real genuine dude to me. The type of bro you could approach at the local strip joint. Maybe get a 2-for-1 lapdance.

Feel like Whitlock was always perceived as The Joker to Joe Posnanski's Batman. Maybe he's just misunderstood.

Growing up as a KC area fan, did you like J-Dub or JoPo?

Will you keep reading The Star?

Does Sam Mellinger get you "excited" about KC sports?

Did you appreciate Whitlock's willingness to go "against the grain"? His ability to come up with snarky nicknames? (see: Scott Egoli, Pussy Galore, Sideline Barbie, etc.) Feel like the KC sports fanatics need J-Dub. Feel like most people lack the balls to go against the mainstream.

Felt bad when Whitlock cried about leaving print media. Hope I someday feel that passionate about sports blogging. Maybe announce that I'm leaving blogger.com for some new wave form of media. Maybe have The Peanut cater the event.

Did you enjoy The Explanation?

Should people care if two uggo journos were "bumping uglies"?

Where should Jason Whitlock go now that print media is officially dead?

Should Jason become a gonzo journalist who reports on newsroom sexcapades?

Would you watch a sports/pop culture/BBQ show starring J-Dub?

Would you go to a strip club with Jason Whitlock?

You think this sexy pic will get my blog mad clicks?

Is Whitlock a "pussy" for crying on TV/AM radio?

Will there be another relevant KC sports media personality in your lifetime?
